Reuters confirms Fletcher move to BU

Quite annoyed: I took the time to inform Reuters that they’d made a mistake in stating that The Fletcher School was at Boston University, and explained to them that it was in fact at Tufts University. I’d included in my email signature that I was a student at The Fletcher School, Tufts University.

Having looked into my email, Reuters’ editorial team replied with this condescending and nonsensical email:

‘After doing our research we got in touch with our correspondent and they informed us “There are always conflicting facts about people. We have just looked again at this and found a website ‘Global Business Leaders’ which says Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Boston, US.’

And the moral of the story? Caveat emptor, even when highly respected news agencies put easily verifiable ‘facts’ in a ‘FACTBOX’.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Please pass this note onto the editorial team.

This is not a matter of ‘conflicting facts about a person’. This is an open and shut case. A cursory bit of research would have lead you to The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy’s homepage, http://fletcher.tufts.edu/, which indicates that it is a part of Tufts University. Tufts University’s campus is in Greater Boston. It is not in anyway a part of Boston University.

This shabby piece of research and thinking on your publication’s part makes me think less of it. I will be satisfied once I see the necessary change made in http://af.reuters.com/article/energyOilNews/idAFLDE7502XI20110601.

If the change is not made, I will make your last response public to show how poorly your publication carries out its research.

Regards,
Imad Ahmed

Dear Sir/Madam,

You inform the reader that Shokri Ghanem ‘studied at Boston University at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy’.

Please correct this. He studied at Tufts University at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
